Sanctuary Salon & Med Spa was very fortunate to volunteer their time, knowledge and talent on July 11th for the Shia Ismaili community who came together worldwide for the Diamond Jubilee of their beloved 49th Imam Prince Kareem Agakhan.
The occasion also celebrated 60 years of the Agakhan’s dedication to the upliftment of poverty globally. The Agakhan Network AKDN is very active in the poorest parts of Asia and Africa with a strong emphasis on global poverty alleviation, gender equality, sustainable solutions and strengthening civil society.
Our staff, Pareen Merchant, Brenda Rosario and Christine Otkhan, volunteered services for hair and makeup for over 60 performers who performed traditional folk dances from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, India and Pakistan. The Sanctuary Team styled the dancers hair and makeup correlative to the culture and country of each performer.
The celebration was a great experience to learn about the pluralism of the Shia culture and values of the Ismaili community.
